Our focus for winemaking is to produce wines that are easy-to-drink, low in acid, and low in preservative. Our white wines are mostly un-oaked to achieve a rounder softer finish without the harsh tannins from oak. Our Merlot Red is made with reduced time in oak to produce a softer wine.

We have a strict policy of minimal sulphur levels where ever possible. We also provide the 'free' sulphur levels for all of our wines for consumers that suffer from sulphite allergies. Since 2003, we have been using Stelvin Caps (twist top) for our white wines.  We continue to use cork for our red wines. All our wines are suitable for immediate drinking, or for cellaring. These are our current wines:

Monahan Estate 2007 – VERDELHO

The Verdelho grapes originated in the Mediterranean area and were imported from Portugal. Our Verdelho wine is a vibrant pale green colour that supports a blend of tropical fruit and citrus aromas. It has a crisp clean dry finish that is balanced by lovely melon flavours to provide an excellent finish on the palate. This wine enhances the flavours of Mediterranean dishes such as seafood, antipasto, quiche, but it is also perfect for Asian dishes. (26 ppm Free Sulphur Dioxide) $20 per bottle or $204 per case

Monahan Estate 2005 – SEMILLON

The Semillon grapes originated in Bordeaux. Our 2005 was bottled early to retain the freshness of primary fruit and with a pale green colour. This classic Hunter Semillon has a nose displaying lemongrass and citrus with hints of pineapple. The palate is crisp and fruity with a long, clean finish. Awards: Two gold medals (including top gold and trophy at the Hunter Valley Boutique Winemakers' Show), two silver and two bronze. James Halliday's 2008 Australian Wine Companion rating: 91/100 points.  (29 ppm Free Sulphur Dioxide) $18 per bottle or $168 per case

Monahan Estate 2002 – SEMILLON

Light straw in colour, with limey citrus characteristics. A crisp, clean dry white wine. Low in alcohol at 10.5%, low in sugar, low in acid, and very low in preservative. The ideal wine for the health conscious or weight watcher. A soft table wine for daily drinking. Awards include silver and bronze medals. (10 ppm Free Sulphur Dioxide) $18 per bottle or $168 per case

Monahan Estate 2006 Unwooded – CHARDONNAY

Pale straw coloured with lovely green hues, this wine's nose shows white peach and rock melon aromas. A medium-bodied wine with fresh melon and fig flavours, lovely balance and texture with a lingering finish. Awards include four bronze medals. (35 ppm Free Sulphur Dioxide) $18 per bottle or $168 per case

Monahan Estate 2006 Old Bridge – ROSÉ

Our Rosé is a mix of white Chardonnay and red Chambourcin grapes. This wonderful Rosé benefits from softly scented berry fruit aromas in a fragrant floral bouquet. The palate is rounded out with a hint of gooseberry, forest fruits and subtle tannin. The wine finishes with good, clean acidity. (24 ppm Free Sulphur Dioxide) $18 per bottle or $168 per case

Monahan Estate 2005 – MERLOT

The Merlot grape originated in Bordeaux, and is comparable to a plump soft Cabernet Sauvignon with blackcurrant character. Our Merlot has delicate oak characters overlaying the lovely soft fruit bouquet of this easy-drinking red wine. Soft tannins and cherry flavours integrate to create a vibrant medium length palate. This wine would make an excellent accompaniment to Mediterranean dishes such as Italian pasta, pizza and antipasto. (13 ppm Free Sulphur Dioxide) $20 per bottle or $204 per case
